Using a Linux Computer as a Router

Hello. I've been cursed with an Asus wl-138g v2 card on a Windows computer. I'd switch it over to Linux, but I am compelled to leave it with Windows. The issue is that the card is horrible in Windows and I can't get a new card right now.

I have another computer with a decent wireless connection and an unused ethernet port. I'd like to connect the computer to the wireless internet and use the computer as a router, connecting the other computer through ethernet. The problem is that I have no idea where to begin with sharing the connection. In the past I tried it, but I couldn't set it up properly due to the internet connection coming through wifi.

Thank you for your assistance.

Router, Wireless, and a Mac - UPDATE

The original post is here: http://community.livejournal.com/ubuntu_users/340480.html

When I went to reconfigure his settings, I did the following:

Changed from WEP to WPA

Changed alignment of the router to give better signal

Changed his computer so it would automatically connect to his wireless

And, while I was there, everything worked extremely well. I was quite pleased. However, now he is having difficulty again. He boots up the computer and, like clockwork, 5 minutes later the computer will connect. If he moves the computer to the other side of the room, he connects immediately.

I don't understand it. It was working perfectly well while I was there. Anyone got any ideas? I'm considering just telling him that he'll have to wire his laptop in.

##EDIT##

He just walked in (I'm at work). Apparently it works on the left side of his desk, but not the right side. And, now I realize the problem. There is a granite fireplace with a steel lining right behind his desk. I thought the angles were correct to bypass the fireplace, so it must extend a few feet into the wall on either side.

Now I just need to figure out how to set up this router as a repeater/bridge.
